… ready to play

quite a good distratction

Posted by: rei on: November 27, 2007

as i have until february 2008 before ahn son saeng’s new drama is aired, i figured i had to look for some distractions in the meantime. what can be better than venturing into familiar grounds?

japanese dramas, that is…

galileo.jpg

and this is what i’m watching now… galileo. fact is, i saw the poster of this drama at shibuya (i think) but i didn’t think of watching it until now because i never liked shibasaki kou much. good thing i did, because it’s such a brilliant show, i’m already captivated by the 7th minute into the show. and shibasaki kou is half the reason why! she finally gets rid of her gloomy face and plays someone more klutzy and amusing!

it also helps that:
- the other lead is fukuyama masaharu. just look at him. he never aged!
- it’s adapted from a novel by higashino keigo, one of my favourite japanese detective novel author.
- it’s a detective/mystery. other than doctor shows, my fav. has to be detective kind.
- it’s fukuyama masaharu. oh i said that before.

fukuyama plays yukawa manabu, a gifted physicist and an associate professor at the teito university. he is roped in by his classmate, kusanagi to solve mysteries that are seemingly strange and impossble. even though he’s gifted in physics… rules the squash courts, he sucks at every other thing esp. interaction with other humans, thus earning him the nickname weirdo galileo. (galileo by the way, is a real scientist, and has been called ‘the father of modern physics.. kudos to wiki!) shibasaki as utsumi is a rookie cop, eager to solve all these mysteries and look up to kusanagi a lot. when kusanagi got transferred, he introduced utsumi to yukawa.. but obviously, the two simply don’t click.

i can’t stop laughing at his weirdness.

yukawa: are you upset about something?
utsumi: you can tell?
yukawa: are you mad at me?
utsumi: scientists really don’t understand people’s feelings!
yukawa: feelings are illogical. it’s a waste of time to try to understand something illogical. for example, you are dog poo.
utsumi: what?!
yukawa: you are poo. so you stink. would anyone think about why poo stinks when the poo is in front of him? you see poo, you either get rid of it or walk away. it’s a waste of time to think why poo stinks.
utsumi: are you saying i’m dog poo?
yukawa: yes. don’t make me repeat myself.

is it possible to carry out a dialogue like that if the other party is not a weirdo?

yukawa: what is that kid doing (referring to a kid looking up on the sky at the crime scene)
utsumi: you ask her yourself.
yukawa: … i hate them.
utsumi: ?!
yukawa: children are illogical.

and that’s just the first ep! i can expect so much fun in the later episodes. perhaps i can give a better review later into the drama, cuz i’m so mesmerized by fukuyama now.

but he’s still only just a distraction in the meantime ><

Hi,
i noticed you liked the drama Galileo too. Im re-watching it right now because Im trying to look for the episode where Utsumi says that Yukawa is lucky because he only likes science. And Yukawa stops and lectures Utsumi that she only assumes just because he doesnt say he likes women doesnt mean he doesnt like them. Utsumi is very surprised because Yukawa actually likes women.
I’m sorry I bother you but ive been trying to find that episode but i just couldnt.
Thank you for your help.
